Technical Features
- BlueDIRECT Technology:It adopts BlueDIRECT technology, including piezoelectric fuel nozzles that can achieve up to five fuel injections per stroke and a multi-spark ignition system that can continuously release four electric sparks within one millisecond, which can significantly improve combustion efficiency and reduce emissions.
- Small Inertia Turbo and Short Stroke Design:The combination of a small inertia turbocharger and a short stroke design (83 mm bore and 73.7 mm stroke for the 1.6L version) gives the engine excellent response characteristics, and the peak torque can be output from 1250 rpm.
- Friction Reduction Design:Smooth cylinder walls, optimized piston rings, and carbon coatings on the asymmetric piston skirt surface can effectively reduce internal friction losses, thereby reducing fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions. The carbon dioxide emissions per kilometer are between 136g and 147g.
- Variable Displacement Oil Pump and Start-Stop System:The variable displacement oil pump can provide an appropriate amount of oil according to the engine speed and load to avoid energy waste. The start-stop system can turn off the engine during short stops and restart it when the pedal is released, avoiding fuel consumption during idling.

Application Models
The M270 engine was installed in models with a transverse engine layout, such as the A-Class and B-Class. It was also used in some models with longitudinal engine layout after being modified.
